MVE technology and Salex

In pursuing our commitment to dermatology and creating innovative products, CORIA developed the Multivesicular Emulsion (MVE) delivery system for use in Salex Cream and Lotion.  

The MVE system is a novel, patented technology for topical delivery of active ingredients.  This technology uses a two-phase, oil-in-water emulsion system to produce a multivesicular structure containing multilamellar concentric spheres.  As a result, the active ingredients are held in the multivesicular structures, distributed evenly throughout the entire product, and time-released.  In contrast, the majority of liposome-based delivery systems release their ingredients in “bursts” with the deepest layers of the stratum corneum not being penetrated, while the surface layers are overtreated and potentially irritated.  

Salex™, incorporating MVE technology, effectively combines the benefits of alpha-hydroxy and beta-hydroxy acids with salicylic acid 6% in one formulation. An advantage of the MVE delivery system is the controlled-release of ingredients that reduces the potential for irritation.

* Salex should not be used in any patient known to be sensitive to salicylic acid or any other listed ingredients.  Salex should not be used in children under two years of age.  Excessive erythema and scaling conceivably could result from use on open skin lesions.
